Please Help!

I need help, and bad. I am not good at math, whatsoever and I have failed once again at my attempt to "wing it". I need a cozy for my Zune, like an Ipod cozy. I found a few that I like online like this one, this one, and this one. Tonight I attempted to make one. This one in particular. I wanted to add a few things to it, like a pocket (for my earphones) and I didn't particularly like the elastic so I didn't put that part on. Well, this is my first attempt.

No so good, since it is too small and my Zune won't even fit into it.

This is my second attempt. It was definitely bigger. Too big in fact. So I thought, well I'll just sew down the side to make it more snug. Nope, doesn't work and on top of that, it looks horrible.

I need help! Please, anyone! Please help me! This is what I am looking for. Something that my Zune will fit snugly into. I'd like to have a lining on it to help prevent scratches. My Zune measures 61.1mm x 108.2mm x 12.9 mm (w x h x d). Or from measurements it is 4 1/4 tall by 2 3/8 wide. Does this make sense to anyone? I just need to know what sizes to cut the fabric and lining including the seam allowances of 1/4 inch. I can still follow the tutorial of this pattern but I need to know what sizes to cut it. Can someone please help me? Pretty please?

That bird motif cozy is really cute!
Sorry, but I'm not someone to go to for sewing advice. I'm not really a 'sew for fun' type of person.
The only thing I can think of is using stretchy material. That would make something more like a 'sock' than a cozy though. And it looks like you want a tailored, lined and padded cozy.
I like the ric-a-rac on your 'too big' Zune cozy!

I was also going to suggest using a sock or some sort of jersey knit material. If you sew the stretchy fabric to the exact width of the zune (not adding extra fabric for the thickness), then it will stretch and be tight.

My husband altered some striped baby socks for our ipod nano a few years ago and it worked out pretty well just tailoring an already made sock

Hey Cami! Sorry to hear about your frustrations. If you would like to bring over your Zume tomorrow I would love to play around with helping you make a cozy for it. You sew better than me probably but the stuff I have been sewing lately is all without patterns. Maybe another perspective might help. See you tomorrow!

I can't sew, so I'm not much help, sorry! Did you try just tracing around your zune with tracing paper to get a general sense of the measurements? Good luck!
