Fingerless Mittens

Back in October, my mother came to NC to visit us for the first time. I spent the week with her showing her around the city (trying to convince here that she needs to move here), showing her all of my finished projects, and my WIPS, and you know... all the fun stuff you don't get to do when you live 3,000 miles apart. One day during her visit, she politely pointed out (I think it was a joke at the time, but it hit home) that I hadn't knit anything for my dear sweet husband who puts up with my knitting obsession on a daily basis.

Shame on me. Seriously, what an embarrassment. To rectify the situation, I casted on right away for a pair of fingerless mittens (at his request). Over Memorial Day, while we were browsing in a local yarn store, my husband found this Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky yarn on sale... so we purchased a few skeins with the idea of making him a hat. Later he changed his mind and decided he didn't want a hat, but fingerless mittens instead.

(That is my hand modeling the gloves... just so you don't think the hubby has "girly" hands)

So I found a few patterns that I thought would work for some mittens for him, and he decided on this free pattern. After three days of knitting (just an hour or less each day), I had a finished pair of fingerless mittens.

And a happy husband. Which makes for a happy me! Raverly Link
Pattern - Potluck Wool Mittenettes (free)
Yarn - Debbie Bliss Casmerino Chunky
Needles - Size 8 DPN's
Modifications - I made the brim over the fingers slightly longer than the pattern stated, just to cover my husbands long fingers better. I used a size 8 needle, but wish I would have used a 9 (but didn't have any on hand) to work better with the bulky yarn. I can't remember (I should have written it down) but I believe I cast on 34 sts to accommodate the bulky yarn. Or maybe it was 32 sts.
Over all, I loved this pattern. Super fast and really simple. And this yarn....LOVE LOVE LOVE!

These are awesome. I'm a big fan of the brown/blue combo as well. I'm sure your hubby will enjoy them all winter!

Yay for Dustin, he gets a prize-besides you :)

Sorry, The MOM stays here where I need her for sanity. Thank you.
